For more than 30 years, Applied Materials has worked to alleviate hunger in communities across North America – giving employees the opportunity to join the Company’s Fight Against Hunger campaign by making a financial contribution and requesting a match from the Applied Materials Foundation. This annual fundraising drive is a tradition at Applied fueled by friendly competition between business units, creative events hosted at our sites and the stewardship of an executive champion.
To bring new energy, innovative ideas and a fresh perspective to Fight Against Hunger, Applied CEO Gary Dickerson invited our Young Professionals Network – one of our Employee Resource Groups – to champion this year’s campaign. Representatives from the group based in Silicon Valley, Kalispell, Montana and Austin, Texas joined together to raise awareness about food insecurity, promote the campaign and engage employees as donors.
As a result of their efforts and our employees’ generosity, more than $3.3 million was raised for 58 food banks across the US and Canada.
In recent years, Applied's work to fight hunger has continued to expand around the world with employees in Taiwan, Korea and Greece contributing money to support food distribution to those in need in their communities. Funds raised through a run event in France and a cricket match in India supported organizations addressing hunger locally. In China, Israel and Korea, boxes of food were packed and delivered to children and families who will benefit from the nutritious items.
In addition to being an industry leader, Applied Materials believes it has a responsibility to be an engaged leader in the community. Our dedication to helping alleviate hunger in regions where our employees work and live is directly aligned with our Applied Purpose – linking what matters to the community and our employees to who we are as a company.

Celebrating our Communities Through Arts and Culture
The arts bring people together in shared experiences that transcend boundaries and link us to creativity, to culture and to each other all while helping to build more connected communities. Applied Materials and the Applied Materials Foundation have a long and proud tradition of supporting the arts in locations near our Company facilities and encouraging employees and their families to get involved.
EarthWorks 2023: Inspiring Action for Environmental Sustainability Around the World
While Applied encourages our employees to “make every day Earth Day,” we also invite employees around the world to join in our spring EarthWorks campaign to learn about and inspire action for environmental sustainability. This year’s campaign saw the return of in-person environmental activities in full force with more than 1,500 employees mobilized to protect our planet and enjoy nature.
An Update on our Commitment to Equity-Centered Community Involvement
At Applied Materials, our community involvement is driven by the belief that equity-centered engagement will contribute to a more just, fair and humane world. We are committed to working collaboratively to address historical inequities and to learn from leaders who deeply understand issues we hope to help address.
