The images are stark and the stories never-ending. The long lines of cars waiting to pick up a box of food. People visiting a food pantry for the first time. Pop-up distribution sites providing fresh ingredients and staples to hungry families.

Hundreds of masked volunteers helping the tireless staff of food banks ensure that community members, grappling with the impact of COVID-19 and a weak economy, receive the nutrition they need.

We are grateful to the leadership of food banks as they re-imagine their business models, change service delivery to meet emerging needs and work to manage dramatically increased demand.

This year, Applied Materials employees saw the need and responded generously during our annual North America Fight Against Hunger—a month-long campaign to raise funds to help alleviate hunger in communities where our employees work and live.

While traditional in-person activities were impossible as we shelter-in-place, the Fight Against Hunger went virtual this year. Thanks to employee gifts which were matched dollar-for-dollar by the Applied Materials Foundation (plus an additional $500,000 match to help food banks deal with the impact of COVID), a total of $4 million dollars will be distributed to 50 organizations across the U.S. and in Canada.

For Applied Materials, the Fight Against Hunger and our effort to help feed hungry neighbors is a reflection of Applied Purpose—aligning what matters to our employees and the community with who we are and what we do as a company.
