About Applied Materials India
Applied Materials is a strategic partner and an enabler of the semiconductor, display and solar manufacturing ecosystems in India. The company began its operations in India in 2002 with a liaison office. Formed in 2003, the India center is now the second-largest resource for engineering support for Applied globally.
Our employees provide the organization with engineering design and support services, as well as cutting edge innovation in materials science and engineering through our strong partner ecosystem in India. We play a key role in the Company’s global IT infrastructure footprint offering IT solutions and services and host Applied’s second-largest data center.
The India team delivers high-quality, cost-effective solutions in product design, engineering services, product support, and software development to all business groups of Applied Materials globally. Leveraging these regional competencies, India center enables faster product development through design, simulation, test, and validation. Virtually every new product is worked on by engineers and support staff in India. The India center is rapidly growing as the center for business intelligence, data management and analytics.
Center of Competence
Our Reliability Center of Competence focuses on research in the advanced semiconductor space and supports the global organization in ensuring upfront reliability of components and sub-systems and complements the existing capabilities of design simulation and design verification testing.
The Computer-Aided Engineering Center of Excellence
The Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) Center of Excellence (CoE) with locations in India, United States and Russia support the organization in core areas with various physics expertise - thermal, structural, plasma, chemistry/material design, and electromagnetics. The CAE simulation CoE has a large footprint in India and enables innovative design and engineering development of Applied Materials’ equipment through physics-based simulations across various stages of the product cycle - starting from concept and feasibility to continuous improvement process (CIP).
Approximately 50% of Applied’s global IT workforce is located in India and delivers support and solutions to its business units globally. The range of activities include IT infrastructure, application support & maintenance, ERP/BI solutions, product lifecycle management and analytics.
The software team works on software development for new products, software maintenance of mature products, software QA and software field support. The software developers, image processing experts, QA and application engineers work on advanced wafer inspection and metrology systems.
Applied Materials has been one of the pioneers in industry-academia partnerships in India and believes in enhancing relations between the industry and universities.
An example of our strong academic relations is our partnership with IIT Bombay over the past decade. In association with IIT Bombay, the company has established the Applied Materials Nanomanufacturing Laboratory and the Applied Materials Chemistry Laboratory for Energy & Nano-electronics (CLEAN) at the IIT B campus. The Nanomanufacturing Lab is India's first facility with 200mm semiconductor wafer processing capability dedicated to industry-university collaborative research and is one of the select few university-based 200mm facilities across the globe. The CLEAN Lab is a special R&D facility dedicated to the development of new materials that will find application in a variety of electronics and renewable energy-focused innovations. Together with IIT Bombay, Applied Materials supports a joint Certification Program on Semiconductor Manufacturing and Technology. In addition, we leverage materials engineering to help solve critical technology challenges in new and adjacent markets.
Our strong academic partnerships with IIT Madras, IIT Delhi, IIT Kanpur, IIIT Hyderabad, CECRI spans a broad range of areas from life sciences, AI & Big Data, high performance computing, flexible electronics, energy storage and specialty coatings.
DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION
We believe that diversity is a key driver of our success and innovation. We value our global diversity and strive to weave inclusiveness into the fabric of our company – our processes, business practices, and values and culture. We are home to the Women’s Professional Development Network (WPDN) an Employee Resource Group which is driven and managed by women employees within the organization.
OUR CAMPUSES IN INDIA
Applied Materials India operates out of Bengaluru, Chennai, Mumbai and Delhi. In Bengaluru, we are located at the International Technology Park (ITPB), an icon of India's IT success story. Located just 18 kms from the city center, ITPB catalyzed the growth of Whitefield as a flourishing suburban district in Bengaluru.
