Driving a Net Zero 2040 Playbook powered by collaboration, clean energy and innovation

A Net Zero Pathway

Net Zero requires reducing Scope 1, Scope 2 and Scope 3 emissions along a 1.5°C pathway and offsetting residual emissions with carbon removals. The semiconductor industry is projected to double in size by 2030. Our greenhouse gas emissions are on-track to quadruple over the same timeframe.

For Applied, 99% of our carbon emissions are generated upstream and downstream in our value chain. The path to Net Zero is dependent upon customer and supply chain partnerships.

SEMICON West 2023 Keynote: A Collaborative Playbook For Net Zero

Accelerating Grid Decarbonization

In 2022, we reached 100% renewable electricity in U.S. and will maintain progress toward 100% renewable electricity globally by 2030. To advocate for advancing grid decarbonization, we are participating members of RE100 and CEBA.

Innovating with Customers

In collaboration with our customers, we are in investing in projects that expand the delivery of clean energy, driving solutions across the value chain through active engagement in the Semiconductor Climate Consortium and imec SSTS, and innovating together to scale carbon removal technologies.

Improving Product Efficiency

We are implementing systems and service products that help customers reduce their Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions. We are also driving collaborative technology innovation and test 3x30 solutions within the EPIC Center.

Transforming Our Supply Chain

We are qualifying innovative, lower impact product materials and components and collaborating with peers to support suppliers’ decarbonization initiatives. As a founding partner of Schneider Electric’s Catalyze program, we will work together to accelerate the adoption of renewable energy across the semiconductor value chain.
