Applied Materials offers a wide range of comprehensive benefit programs to its employees. In most locations, employees may choose among:


The Wellness program, Applied Wellness, was established in 1988 to encourage all employees to reach their potential and maintain the productivity necessary to meet the challenges of work and life. By providing a variety of programs, tools and resources, our goal is to enable employees to take charge of their health and develop their own personal wellness program.


All Applied Materials employees worldwide are eligible to participate in Applied Wellness Programs. Programs are voluntary and are either free or offered at a nominal cost.


Applied Wellness offers programs and services that foster optimal employee health and productivity. Core programs focus on the following areas:

Health Appraisals:

Applied Materials offers the following resources to help employees manage their health and evaluate current health status.

  • Comprehensive on-site screenings
  • Online, confidential Health Risk Assessments (HRA)
  • On-site blood pressure machines
  • Health risk management program

Physical Activity and Fitness:

Applied offers the following opportunities for employees to be active:

  • On-site Fitness Centers (in some locations) and health club discounts
  • Recreational facilities and equipment (not available at all locations)
  • Online personal fitness program
  • Fitness Center Reimbursement Program (certain sites)

Stress Management and Work–Life Balance:

The ability to manage stress and effectively balance work and family life can improve health and productivity. Applied offers the following programs to help its employees lead balanced lives and meet the challenges of a dynamic high-tech world:

  • Employee assistance program (EAP)
  • On-site massage therapy (not available at all locations)
  • Quiet/Lactation rooms (not available at all locations)
  • Online employee discount shopping program

Health and Family Care

Applied Materials offers employees various health and family care benefits. In most locations, employees may choose among:

Health Insurance

Applied Materials offers employees and their eligible dependents health insurance designed to meet individual health care needs and preferences. Each medical plan option provides preventative care benefits and coverage for major medical expenses. Medical plan choices include:

  • Health Connect Plan, a high deductible health plan with a Health Savings Account (HSA)
  • Preferred Provider Organization (PPO)
  • Health Maintenance Organization (limited locations)

Two choices of dental plans are offered: a Comprehensive and a Standard Dental PPO. Both products cover preventive, basic, restorative and major care.

A vision plan covering an annual exam, lenses and frames.

Income Protection and Survivor Benefits

If employees become ill or injured and are unable to work, the Applied Materials benefits plan offers financial protection through the following programs:

  • Short and long term disability coverage
  • Company paid life and accident coverage
  • Optional life and accident coverage
  • Business travel accident insurance

Spending Accounts

Employees who pay for day care or have out-of-pocket health care expenses can save money by using Spending Accounts.

Time Off

Retirement Savings and Investment Programs

Applied Materials offers two programs that can help employees save and invest for the future:

  • Applied Materials' Retirement Savings Plan (401k)
  • Employees' Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP)

Stock Programs

Applied Materials provides an opportunity for most employees to participate in the Global Stock Award Program and the Employees' Stock Purchase Plan. These programs link employees' financial success with the Company's success by providing the opportunity for employees to increase the value of their compensation package when the Company's stock price increases.

Global Stock Award Program

  • Stock awards for eligible employees upon hire
  • Annual stock award grants

Employees' Stock Purchase Plan

  • Purchase stock every 6 months at a minimum discount of 15% - over 5 years since 2002, employees have purchased stock at an average discount of 22.62%
  • Employees can contribute up to 10% of their base pay, up to a maximum of $6,500 per purchase period

Academic Partnerships AGU partners with academic universities such as Harvard Business School, Cornell University, Stanford University and Santa Clara University to bring professional resources to Applied Materials employees.
