Applied Materials Places Among NEWSWEEK Magazine’s Top Greenest Companies

十月 17, 2011

For the third year in a row, Applied Materials, Inc. has been named to NEWSWEEK Magazine’s Green Rankings.  Applied placed 43rd among U.S.-based companies in the magazine’s third annual environmental ranking of the 500 largest U.S. companies.  This year the magazine expanded the list to also include the Global 500 largest publicly-traded companies in developed and emerging markets worldwide.

“We are pleased that Applied Materials placed highly in the rankings again,” said Bruce Klafter, managing director and head of Corporate Responsibility & Sustainability for Worldwide Operations, in a post published today on the Applied Materials blog.  “A ranking of our environmental performance is a reflection of the hard work of a lot of employees and partners and we can use the scores to identify opportunities for improvement in the future.”

Applied Materials is committed to conducting its business operations in a manner that preserves the environment and protects the health and safety of workers, customers and neighboring communities.  For more on Applied Materials’ environmental stewardship and programs, visit the Company’s website at http://appliedmaterials.com/about/cr/sustainability.

About the NEWSWEEK Green Rankings 2011

To produce the 2011 Green Rankings, Newsweek collaborated with leading environmental research providers, Trucost, and Sustainalytics to assess each company’s environmental footprint, management of that footprint, and transparency. The Green Rankings focus on the largest publicly traded companies in America (the U.S. 500 list) and worldwide (the Global 500 list). Each list consists of the largest 500 companies by revenue (most recent fiscal year), market capitalization, and number of employees as of June 30, 2011. A number of the largest U.S.-based companies appear on both lists.  For more information, visit the Green Rankings Full Methodology.
