Eileen Tanghal joined Applied Ventures in July 2008, where she is responsible for identifying, recommending and managing venture capital investments in nanotechnology, display, software automation and materials.

Ms. Tanghal is currently board of directors observer at BT Imaging, Liquavista, Plextronics, and Fat Spaniel Technologies.

Ms. Tanghal has a diverse background combining 13 years of experience with early stage venture capital-backed companies in the US and Europe, as an engineer, product manager, and venture capitalist.

She previously served as an investment director in the London office of Kennet Partners, where she led and co-led the firm's investment in fabless semiconductor companies Sequans Communications and Wireless Audio IP, aka “STS” (recently acquired by SMSC), for which she served as a board director. Prior to this, Ms. Tanghal was an investment associate with Amadeus Capital Partners Limited from 2002 to 2005, where she worked closely with portfolio companies including Plastic Logic Limited.

Prior to entering the venture capital industry, she worked at PDF Solutions, Inc. (Ticker: PDFS), where she was one of the company’s first ten employees, specializing in semiconductor device deisgn and fabrication.

Ms. Tanghal holds a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering and computer science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an MBA from the London Business School. She currently co-chairs the MIT Club of Northern California’s Cleantech and Energy Committee.

Dr. Pravin Narwankar has a dual role as chief technology officer (CTO) for Applied Materials in India and investment manager for Applied Ventures in Applied Materials Corporate Business Development group since 2006. As CTO, his responsibilities include driving research and development for the India Global Development Capability center that provides engineering and software support services to Applied Materials locations around the world, as well as serving as the local Corporate Technology Council representative. His investment manager responsibilities include identifying new business and startup investment opportunities and engaging with local entrepreneurs and venture firms.

Dr. Narwankar has been with Applied Materials for more than 11 years and has held a number of positions of increasing responsibility in research and product development for front end and back end of line products. He has more than 20 patents and 50 published articles on product development, materials synthesis and process integration.

Dr. Narwankar received Bachelor of Technology and Master of Technology degrees in metallurgical engineering and materials science from the India Institute of Technology Bombay and holds a doctorate degree in materials science and engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.

Dr. Brian Hubert joined Applied Ventures in 2007. Dr. Hubert's current focus is on nanotechnology, display, materials, and software automation. Brian is involved with portfolio companies ClearEdge Power and Advanced Inquiry Systems.

Prior to Applied Ventures, Dr. Hubert was a member of the High-tech and Health Care practices at McKinsey & Company.

Prior to joining McKinsey, Dr. Hubert co-founded Kovio, Inc., a Kleiner Perkins-backed nanotechnology and RFID startup which is pioneering semiconductor fabrication using liquid silicon and novel printing methods. Brian has served Kovio in several capacities as Chief Technology Officer, President, and observing member on the Board of Directors.

Dr. Hubert is a winner of the Lemelson-MIT Prize for excellence in invention and innovation. Articles and world-wide broadcast media about Dr. Hubert and his wide range of innovations have appeared in USA Today, New York Times, Associated Press, PR Newswire, Wired.com, and CNN Sci-Tech.

Dr. Hubert earned his bachelor of science, master of science, and Ph.D. degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Mechanical Engineering with a research focus on superconductors and nano-engineering.
