4000 Expected for Applied Materials Silicon Valley Turkey Trot in San Jose Thanksgiving Morning, Nov. 22

--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The third annual Applied Materials Silicon Valley Turkey Trot takes place in downtown San Jose on Thanksgiving Day with some 4000 people expected to run or walk in a community event that benefits three local charities. Applied’s CEO, Mike Splinter, will be kicking off the days events with a welcome keynote.

The race features a 5K run/walk and a 10K run for general participants, an elite 5K with former Olympians and world-ranked runners from seven countries, separate competitions among police, firefighters, CEOs and companies, a kids' fun run, and a canned food collection drive.

Proceeds from the event benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank, the Housing Trust of Santa Clara County and the Children's Health Initiative of the Santa Clara Family Health Foundation. The previous two years of the Turkey Trot, "for health, hope and a home," have raised a combined total of $320,000 for these charities.
