Thin Film Transistor - Liquid Crystal Display

Applied Materials has brought economies of scale to the flat panel display industry. The equipment we build uses scale to help make flat panel TVs more than 20 percent larger per year without an increase in price. Applied Materials achieves this goal by developing the most innovative technologies in the industry; technologies that help our customers minimize cost-per-area, by enabling larger glass substrates and reducing material use and defects.

Transistor
There are over six million pixels on a high definition TV, all of which must work perfectly. Applied Materials employs ten major processing platforms to provide customers with unmatched performance in uniform, large-size substrate deposition for manufacturing transistors. Applied Materials further supports the customer with a technology that use electron beams to test an entire display every two minutes, at a rate of 1.4 billion pixels per hour, keeping pace with customers’ needs to perform functionality tests on as many as 250,000 panels per month.

Color Filter
Applied Materials tools for color filter manufacturing offer three times more material utilization and achieve higher productivity at significantly reduced costs. The Applied Materials NEW ARISTO system has rapidly evolved to become the standard thin film deposition solution for flat panel display color filter manufacturers. Based on an innovative design optimized for low defects and high yield, our tools enable efficient deposition of twelve, 55 inch color filter panels per minute.
