Thin Film (TF) solar modules offer a unique opportunity
for architects and building construction. The TF module is manufactured
on glass, the same glass used to make windows for buildings and
homes. Incorporating solar cells into building windows could provide
electricity when the sun shines, providing a very attractive energy
source. This concept is called Building Integrated Photovoltaics
(BIPV).
Integrating PVs into structures enable the building industry
to fully integrate solar panels into the structure appearance.
Building integrated PV can be configured as exterior glass skin
on high rise buildings, a skin that produces electricity during
the day, thereby reducing the consumption of fossil fuel generated
electricity required to operate a building.
Integrated PV can be incorporated in a number of ways into
building surfaces, from skylights that offer occupants views of
the sun and sky, to roofing tiles that generate electricity for
the product’s lifetime – saving money and reducing the dependence on fossil fuel energy
sources. |
