| Applied Materials, Inc. is pleased to announce that two members of its Board of Directors, Alexander "Andy" Karsner, former Assistant Secretary for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy with the U.S. Department of Energy, and James Rogers, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Duke Energy Corporation, will be inducted into the inaugural Hall of Fame of the Energy Efficiency Forum. The forum was one of the first to bring together politicians, business leaders, and non-governmental organizations to promote energy efficiency as the first and most important solution to global energy challenges. As Congress prepares environmental and energy legislation to mitigate the effects of global warming, Joe Pon, vice president of Corporate Affairs at Applied Materials, U.S. Representative Zoe Lofgren and U.S. Representative Mike Honda along side Applied Materials' 2MW solar array meet to discuss the company's strategy to enable lower cost-per-watt of solutions for solar cell manufacturing – with the goal of making solar a more meaningful contributor to the global energy supply.
At the time of its completion, Applied's tracker system, mounted on the Arques campus parking lot, was one of the largest operating solar arrays at a corporate campus and the largest in Northern California. |
