Computerworld, a leading IT industry trade magazine, named Applied Materials one of the Top 12 Green IT vendors. Our IT organization is committed to achieve 20% of Applied's greenhouse gas reduction goal through energy efficient computers, consolidating server rooms and increasing the cooling efficiency of our data center.

Applied Materials was awarded a 2009 Silicon Valley Water Conservation Award for programs and leadership that have advanced water conservation in Silicon Valley. Applied's water conservation goal is to reduce consumption in our facilities by at least 10% by 2012. To date, we have instituted projects that have saved over 51 million gallons of water—the equivalent of 2,500 average size swimming pools!

Applied Materials topped the list of semiconductor equipment vendors for the 18th consecutive year in 2009 according to leading market research and economic analysis firm VLSI Research Inc.

Applied came in at number 7 on The Cleantech Blog "Power 10" Ranking Vol II 2009 of cleantech companies doing it right. Eligibility for inclusion in the ranking required the company to be energy or environmental technology-related and providing solutions in the market needs.

The Silicon Valley/San Jose Business Journal honored the region's top 50 corporate philanthropists and named Applied Materials as the Top Corporate Philanthropist for 2008. All companies were ranked by their 2008 cash donations to nonprofits in Silicon Valley.
