Job Title: Customer Engineer Reference: SF8735088 Location: Italy Grade: 32-33 Position Purpose:
- Working under occasional supervision, is responsible for performing the on-site installation, servicing, and repair of complex semiconductor manufacturing systems.
- Ensures high levels of system performance and customer satisfaction within assigned account(s) by demonstrating full technical proficiency and good communications skills. Applies techniques obtained through formal training, on-the-job training, and self study to perform routine maintenance on specified product(s) and to diagnose and correct failures on Applied Materials’ products.
- May function as a specialist on products to resolve complex system problems which may occasionally involve some process, software or hardware issues outside of assigned territory.
Responsibilities:
- Is proficient on primary toolset and demonstrates ability to acquire additional systems and applications.
- Performs startup activities through Tier II with limited support. Able to complete qualifications with minimal assistance.
- Completes quality repairs. Actively responds to fab issues by communicating with engineers in other locations and participating in escalation conference calls.
- May initiate or participate in projects to drive down costs or increase uptime.
- Ability to carry out action plans and report findings.
- Verifies operational quality of system equipment.
- Follows all checklists and procedures and ensures correct Revs of procedures and schematics are available prior to performing work. May identify procedural issues.
- Can perform most retrofits on equipment. Assists in process issues.
- Applies diagnostic techniques and the use of documentation and test equipment with assistance from senior engineers.
- Assumes responsibility for full customer satisfaction assuring excellent relations within assigned area. Demonstrates strong interest and knowledge of the customer’s business.
- Builds and maintains customer satisfaction through clear, consistent communication and the sharing of collective knowledge.
- Is consistently able to operate in high pressure or ambiguous situations. Solicits customer feedback.
- Understands the impact of various actions/decisions on the account.
- Is aware of potential dissatisfiers and escalates as appropriate. Develops and executes corrective action plans.
- Performs BKM’s. Actively engages in the use of knowledge management systems. Complies with all IP guidelines.
- Complies with all safety procedures and consistently demonstrates safety as a value.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- May be exposed to cramped work space, mechanical, electrical, and/or chemical hazards.
- Requires attentiveness to safety precautions at all times. Occasionally required to work rapidly for prolonged periods of time.
- Will routinely bend, stoop, reach, or walk.
- Will be required to work overtime and/or travel on short notice, including unscheduled call-in from home and work other shifts as needed.

Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrated skills and proficiency to operate successfully in the customer environment. Demonstrated capability to diagnose and repair failures on semiconductor equipment. Ability to routinely lift, pull, or push objects weighing up to 50 lbs. with or without accommodation.
- Ability to effectively use hand tools, meters, scopes, and other pertinent specialized equipment. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Education and Experience:
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR INCUMBENTS:
- ASEET and 3-5 years electromechanical experience, or equivalent, or
- BSEET and 2-4 years electromechanical experience, or equivalent.
- At least 2 years in the semiconductor industry.
- Process and/or software experience on related semiconductor equipment.
- Requires current driver’s license and passport.
- Must be willing and able to travel
- Flexibility to work on shifts/overtime/stand-by/on-call/holidays when required.
INCUMBENTS ARE PREFERRED WHO POSSESS THE FOLLOWING:
- Previous experience on Applied Materials’ equipment.
- Well developed technical communication skills.
- Ability to recommend methods to enhance customer satisfaction and assist in training less experienced customer engineers.
- Ability to understand customer process and assume responsibility for customer satisfaction.
Job Title: Process Support Engineer Reference: SF8736775 Location: Italy Grade: 34-35 Position Purpose:
- The primary function of the Process Engineer II position is to maintain, verify and improve functionality of semiconductor manufacturing processes on Applied Materials equipment.
- The Process Engineer II will develop new processes or modify existing processes or best known methods (BKMs) in order to meet agreed customer process specifications.
Responsibilities:
- Improving existing processes or troubleshooting of excursions on qualified processes; growing knowledge of process sequence integration
- Plans and performs system start-up in phase T3: Develops process according to customer specifications without supervision - reference processes are available
- Plans and perform system start-up in phase T3R: Verifies existing customer specific process without supervision
- Plans and performs system start-up in phase T2: Performs Basic Process / AMAT Std. Process Verification without any supervision
- Perform system start-up in phase T4: Develops new processes according to customer specifications wit limited supervision - no reference processes are available (e.g JDA, alpha or beta sites)
- Supports process parameter signoff negotiations
- Supports manager with product and project presentations
- Performs product demonstrations with limited supervision
- Provides input for modification of existing product design
- Other duties as assigned, i.e. safeguard health & safety
Levelling Factors
Scope:
- Work is generally performed globally without supervision from experienced PSE, Technologist or manager.
- Number of supported customers/facilities/projects: typically 2 at a time. Supporting role for signoff negotiations and customer process specifications.
- Increased role in sales and product support (e.g. performing demos, input to PBGs). Increased exposure to process sequence integration.
- Planning, performing and controlling a project.
Complexity:
- Job includes following and some development of guidelines & procedures.
- Problem solving and verification of process performance: independent.
- Process development will be done under loose supervision.
- Developed skills of a PSE I level in most other processing techniques within the primary application area (e.g. if primary application area is DCVD, process techniques are BSG, BPSG, ILD, PMD, passivation…).
Impact:
- Mistakes or erroneous decisions can have a financial impact on own work or group.
- Mistakes can have consequences on customer satisfaction (process instabilities, yield loss, project delays).
Interaction:
- Looks for new opportunities to improve the interaction with internal customers.
