Employment Representative - USA

The flexibility and consideration for employee's lives outside of work is one of the reasons why I've stayed at Applied Materials for 18 years. The company supports a flexible workweek, which allows me to balance my personal life and work in a positive way. I can live where my family and I choose, which is quite a distance away, and still provide a valuable contribution to the company. I have always enjoyed and respected my managers. They do everything they can to help me do my job better. The company is also fair about sharing success with employees through our profit sharing plan and employee stock purchase plan. It's a great place if you like working where there a variety of opportunities, activities and energy, and where you can grow professionally in ways you never thought possible.

Account Sales - Singapore

It is definitely exciting to work in a dynamic and fast-paced company like Applied Materials as I get to develop and grow in my field. I started in Applied Materials as a customer engineer and subsequently moved into sales. The ability to move to a new position allows me the opportunity to interact with different people and get in touch with the various aspects of the company. My current sales position requires me to manage customer relations, as well as the sales of our products. I am given the room to grow and develop myself while working to meet the business goals of our company. Applied Materials is constantly evolving and staying ahead in the industry and this will always open up new opportunities for employees to explore and excel. This keeps me on the edge and allows me to reach my greatest potential.

Clara

Commodity Business Manager - USA

My job involves negotiating and maintaining agreements with suppliers. I work with vendors, strategic partners, meet with upper management, and develop strategies for the various business commodities that I manage. I believe Applied Materials is a very welcoming company for minorities and I think you can see that in the diverse work force, from the professional positions, as well as in management. I’m involved in professional organizations such as the Austin Professional Chapter of Mexican American Engineers and Scientists (MAES), and I am a founding member of the affinity group Hispanics in Partnership (HiP) at Applied Materials. Through the various organizations that exist within the company, employees who want to give back to the community are given the opportunity to do so during and after work hours. I’m proud to be a part of that. At Applied Materials, I have the freedom to structure my day and the flexibility to accomplish my job in a way that works for me and meets the company’s business objectives. The environment here is relaxed, casual, but at the same time dynamic with change happening all around you. I have worked at various positions during my seven years at Applied Materials. Being able to move around the company laterally has been great because I learned a lot from understanding how departments interact with each other along with their goals and objectives. Learning what drives each job role improves my skills in dealing with the priorities and needs of customers. Applied Materials is constantly changing and there are always opportunities to increase your job knowledge.

Guillermo

Engineering Manager - USA

I came to Applied Materials in 1994 immediately after completing my degree. I presently lead a team that supports the manufacturing lines for two Product Business Groups – CPI & DSM. Among the team’s responsibility is to support new product designs, integration of new designs into volume manufacturing, optimization of product cycle time, and module test support. Every day can present a different challenge and is best approached with a positive attitude. Applied Materials has a very supportive working environment that encourages employees to focus on completing the tasks at hand and contributing to the company’s growth. Even new employees have the opportunity to make decisions and provide input, and they offer a unique perspective. Our life isn’t all work though, and we routinely have off-site team building events that provide an opportunity to get to know each other better. From a corporate standpoint, there’s a workout facility onsite, wellness fairs, and community support activities. Some of the community support activities include Jr. Achievement, Meals on Wheels, and blood drives. If you are looking for immediate responsibility and the opportunity to contribute to your community, Applied Materials is the place for you.

Huimin

TPS Manager - China

I joined Applied Materials 6 years ago as a Customer Service Engineer supporting one of Applied Materials' key customers in China for semiconductor equipment installation and troubleshooting. After several years of hard work, I earned the opportunity to be Xi'an SSG Lab Operations Manager. With Applied Materials' expansion into the growing solar market, I have recently taken the role of SunFab Solar TPS-China Manager supporting Applied's account teams and customers for solar equipment issues resolution.

I was attracted to Applied Materials because of its leadership in the industry, the opportunities for career development, and advancement in many different businesses around the world. At Applied Materials, I learn new things on a daily basis. I have the opportunity to implement what I have learned into my daily work. This includes how to effectively solve problems for our customers.

I appreciate how Applied Materials plays an important role in the community. There are many ways to support Applied Materials' philanthropic endeavors and make a viable contribution to society. In my leisure time, I enjoy sightseeing or hiking in the mountains.

Joel

TPS Engineer - Switzerland

I came to Applied Materials as a Customer Engineer in 2000 immediately after completing my engineering degree in physics. As a new employee, I had the opportunity to make decisions and provide input. This offered me a lot of perspective. This is a company that’s always at the cutting edge of technology, therefore there are a lot of interesting things to learn so we can improve skills. This is the reason I like working for Applied Materials. As part of a team I developed my skills and quickly became a systems expert. I had the opportunity to work on different company products. Each time facing new challenges and managing new customers. I learned to be autonomous and to adapt quickly to new environments. I like all the incredible development opportunities Applied Materials offers. I learned to accept change and I've learned amazing skills which has supported my advancement through the company. Just recently I changed my job from semiconductor to the solar division, and moved from France to Switzerland. It's as been a huge transition and it was not an easy decision, but now I'm really happy. I get to travel around the world, discovering new opportunities and meeting new people.

Outside of my work at Applied Materials I enjoy deep sea diving. A friend at Applied Materials introduced me to the sport 6 years ago. I take every opportunity to dive in many beautiful places around the world. I participate on the Board of Directors of the diving association where I have the opportunity to teach children the sport of diving.

Lee

Materials Project Manager - USA

My job is in new product transitions and I work with design engineers, materials groups, and suppliers on new products that come to Austin, Texas from R&D, and overseeing enhancements to existing products. It’s exciting working with new products and cutting edge technology, and it’s always fast-paced. We work as a team and everyone wants to do what’s right and make sure we deliver products that the customers want. Moving around to different positions allows people to experience various aspects of the company; the big picture, the entire product life cycle. Applied Materials is very big into volunteering and philanthropy, which is also something that appealed to me when I was considering working here. I like the opportunity to give back to the community. Right now I’m on the community advisory board of a new technical high school. I love inspiring students to be interested in engineering. It’s a great career choice. With an engineering degree, a person can do almost anything. It teaches you to solve problems and analyze issues.

Marisela

Test Production Supervisor - USA

My parents don’t speak English and I come from a family of 10 first-generation Mexican American children. Five of us have college degrees, with two of those five having Master’s degrees. My oldest sister was the first, and I just thought, “If she can do it, I can do it.” Now I support the manufacturing floor at Applied Materials and help to ensure products move through the site as smoothly as possible. A lot of what I do is working with the employees to resolve the manufacturing issues they encounter and on their human resource concerns, as well as working on process improvements. Having a mechanical engineering degree helps me in my job in that it allows me to work with others to develop solutions for a variety of issues. I have good relationships with employees and co-workers, and we joke around with each other and do things together outside of work. I keep my life balanced by volunteering for activities within the community. Because I am bilingual, I tend to do much of my volunteer work in the Hispanic community. I especially enjoy working with students and getting them interested in school, particularly science and technology.

Working in an industry where the advancement in technology is competitive, makes my work very interesting and challenging. Based on my experience, there are a lot of personal development and career path opportunities at Applied Materials.

Merav

Software Team Leader in RT Division, Mask Inspection, Scanner Team - Israel

I started my career at Applied Materials 10 years ago as a subcontractor and came back 3 years ago to work as a Software Engineer in the Aera division building the new mask inspection machines from the group up. In my job, I write the software that communicates with the hardware responsible for the sequence of events that run the scanning, calibration, and mask movement machines. Working at Applied Materials provides amazing opportunities to overcome challenges as a team. We have goals to introduce new machines to the market place, and we work together to achieve those goals. Building a machine from scratch requires a vision, design capabilities, responding to customer requests, overcome mechanical challenges and other challenges every day.

Today in addition to my role as a software engineer, I manage a team of software engineers. Together we meet with clients and develop system requirements for each client.

Michele

Materials Program Manager/New Product Transitions - USA

I interned at Applied Materials before I graduated, and was then hired full-time. The company has an outstanding College to Corporate Development Program that supports new graduates who are transitioning into the company. I’ve had the opportunity to work at four or five different jobs during my time here and that’s provided me with valuable experience in a variety of areas at Applied Materials. This is a dynamic company that’s always at the cutting edge of technology, and it’s always changing. In my current position I support manufacturing in Austin, Texas tracking downtime, materials, and working with engineering and suppliers. I’m always faced with new challenges. And Austin is a vibrant community and I love living here. A lot of my time is spent finishing up an advanced degree at St.EdwardsUniversity, but I also enjoy using the running and hiking trails in the area. There are a lot of fun events in Austin and it’s really the perfect size city for me.

Paul

Senior Financial Analyst - USA

I represent the finance department for a company-wide project to update our systems and business processes. The project is very large and involves people from around the world. We certainly face challenges coordinating and communicating on such a scale, but even on a mega-project like this, every voice is heard and taken seriously. All input is respected and considered at Applied Materials. I also like the flexibility we have to transition to new roles around the company periodically and the opportunities that presents. I’ve been at Applied Materials for five years and have held four jobs, which allowed me to work with different managers and understand other parts of the company. From my first days at Applied Materials, I’ve needed to be flexible and be ready for new challenges. No two days are the same, which keeps me sharp. I know I wouldn’t want to do the exact same job day in and day out for twenty years. I need change and challenges in my life.

Rudy

Configuration Engineering Manager - USA

I really appreciate the company’s core values, which include mutual trust and respect. These values are put into practice every day and demonstrate how different it is here than at other companies. For instance, when a challenge or problem arises, it’s not enough to say, “I found a solution” if that means you stepped on toes and cut corners. At Applied Materials, how the goal was achieved is just as important as the result. My position is about problem solving. I have to understand both divisional and company goals and objectives. We want to do it faster, better and cheaper. I’m responsible for insuring the accuracy of bills, that they are 100 percent accurate and that projects are on budget. I make sure our business processes are up to snuff, develop business procedures and keep the project on track. I’d recommend Applied Materials to anyone interested in working with the latest technology and working across technologies. I’ve been with Applied Materials for 11 years because the environment is great and I work with outstanding people.

I ensure our tools are delivered with the highest quality to our customers and shipped on schedule. I also document each phase so we have a record of what each customer needs and what solutions we implemented for them.
