| The idea of nanotechnology has been attributed to Richard Feynman. In 1959, he gave a speech that introduced the idea that the properties of materials and devices at the nanometer range would present future opportunities for products that are cleaner, stronger, lighter, and more precise. The concept was later popularized by Eric Drexler in the 1986 publication of “Engines of Creation: The Coming Era of Nanotechnology.” Although the idea of nanotechnology has been around for decades, it has become a reality with the manufacturing of sophisticated equipment that has the ability to fabricate structures at the nanoscale. |
